lThe establishment of Texas A&M University at Qatar brings to Education City in Doha, Qatar, over 125 years of colorful history. The main campus of Texas A&M University, located in College Station, Texas, USA, opened its doors in 1876 as an all-male university. It has since grown to enroll over 45,000 students who can choose from over 150 degree tracks that cover the spectrum of professional fields. Texas A&M University is recognized as a premier international university, with globally-recognized faculty.
Texas A&M University and Qatar Foundation entered into an agreement in 2003 to bring Texas A&M's top-ranked engineering programs and research to the Gulf Region by establishing a branch campus in an area called Education City and offering undergraduate degrees in chemical, electrical, mechanical, and petroleum engineering. Education City is a 2,400 acre multi-university campus that will house various prestigious universities, all offering the best programs available at their respective main campuses. This unique vision and partnership will open the availability of an American education in Qatar without the students having to go abroad. The curricula offered at Texas A&M University at Qatar is identical to that which is offered at the main campus in College Station, Texas.
Now entering its fourth academic year in Qatar, TAMUQ has grown to a student body of nearly 200 and faculty of 48. A staff of nearly 100 professionals from around the globe support the academic, student and university business programs.
In 2007, Texas A&M University at Qatar will move to the new Engineering Building in Education City. The 50,000 square meter building will offer the best in teaching and research facilities. Also in 2007, graduate programs will commence and both Master of Engineering and Master of Science degrees will be offered.
