Dr. Hamid R. Parsaei

Hamid R. Parsaei, Ph.D., P.E., FIIE, is a professor of mechanical engineering and associate dean for academic affairs at Texas A&M University at Qatar. Prior to his present appointment, he served the University of Houston for over nine years as professor and chair of the Department of Industrial Engineering in the Cullen College of Engineering. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in industrial engineering from Western Michigan University and the University of Texas at Arlington, respectively. Dr. Parsaei served as principal and coprincipal investigator on projects sponsored by the National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, National Institute of Standards and Technology, National Institute of Safety and Health, Naval Ordinance Station, Texas Department of Transportation, IBM, City of Houston, Qatar Foundation, and several others with total funding exceeding $20 million.

Having established three peer-refereed international journals and served as their editor-in-chief for several years, Dr. Parsaei has also served as area editor, associate editor, and member of the editorial board for several scholarly peer-refereed journals. He has published over 180 articles in refereed journals, conference proceedings and edited books. Dr. Parsaei has also established a six- book series and served as its editor for over two decades. He has advised and co-advised over 60 Ph.D. dissertations, M.S. theses, and M.Eng. reports. Dr. Parsaei is a member of Tau Beta Pi (Engineering Honor Society) and Alpha Pi Mu (Industrial Engineering Honor Society), and was the director of the Engineering Economy Division of Institute of Industrial Engineers.

A Fellow of the Institute of Industrial Engineers (FIIE), Dr. Parsaei has served as the senior vice president-at-large (International) and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Institute of Industrial Engineers. He is the chair of the Institute of Industrial Engineers’ Council of Fellows, and the chair of the Institute of Industrial Engineers Ph.D. Colloquium in 2012.

Dr. Parsaei served as chair of the Industrial Engineering Research Conference/Council of Industrial Engineering Academic Department Heads (IERC/CIEADH) Oversight Committee in 2011. Dr. Parsaei received the UPS Minority Award of Excellence from the Institute of Industrial Engineers and the Engineering Economy Division of the Institute of Industrial Engineers Wellington Award in 2006 and 1993, respectively. Dr. Parsaei is also a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the state of Texas.
