High Performance Electric Drives and Power Converters
Overview:
The course will describe the concept of advanced control strategies of ac machine drives and power converters along with their models. Electrical Motors are bulk energy consumers with nearly 70% of the electricity generated worldwide used by them. Thus, there exists huge energy-saving potential in devising efficient operation through proper control of these electrical machines. Through discussions of the latest-available technology, best practices and simulation models, you will leave with a detailed understanding of the inner workings of, and the precise control of, these ‘high performance drives’ and the resulting efficiencies.
Course Content:
- Introduction to High Performance Drives
- Models of AC Machines
- Pulse Width Modulation of Power Converter
- Control of AC Machines
- Direct Torque Control Of AC Machines
- Problems of Induction Motor Drives with Voltage Inverter and Inverter Output Filters
Who should attend?
This course is intended for practicing electric power engineers and professionals, especially those involved in the product application, design, development, monitoring and testing of electric drives and power converters.
Course Instructor:
Dr. Haitham Abu-Rub, is an associate professor of electrical and computer engineering at Texas A&M University at Qatar. His main research interests are the electrical machine drives and power electronics, having worked as an academic and an expert in his field for almost 20 years. He earned international awards such as the American Fulbright Scholarship at Texas A&M University, in Germany the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship at Wuppertal University and the DAAD Scholarship at Bochum University, and the British Royal Society Scholarship at Southampton University.
