The courses will develop participants’ leadership and management skills through training from highly experienced engineers.

“Building and Leading High Performance Teams” on 13 Nov. will offer managers the tools to create a positive, motivated and effective workplace and team. “Project Management for Engineers and Managers” on 14-15 Nov. will give those in supervisory roles the skills to more effectively plan, allocate and control available resources to best oversee a project from the planning phase to its completion.

Engineer Ahmed Jassim Al-Jolo, chairman of the Qatar Society of Engineers, said, “A university with top engineering faculty and locally-rooted research such as Texas A&M at Qatar has much to offer industry professionals, and the Qatar Society of Engineers is excited to facilitate a transfer of knowledge and expertise through co-hosting these short courses. Partnerships such as this will push the engineering field forward and propel the State of Qatar towards fulfillment of the Qatar National Vision 2030 and development of a knowledge-based society.”

Dr. Hamid R. Parsaei, associate dean for academic affairs and workshop co-instructor, said, “Through Texas A&M at Qatar’s continuing education program, course participants have the opportunity to continue their education right here in Doha rather than having to travel abroad to receive this level of instruction. In this course, we will examine building and leading high performance teams, an important characteristic of an effective leader. The workshop is intended to provide its participants with the required tools to build, develop, and maintain a highly effective team.”

University awarded $358,650 in undergraduate research grants

Research News

Student News

University News
<guid

The tours, organized in collaboration with the World Conference of Science Journalists, enabled Texas A&M at Qatar to share its research and scholarship with the science community.

The tours included visits to several of the University’s most active research facilities including the Water and Environmental Research Laboratories and the Wireless Communication Laboratory. At each facility, visiting journalists were shown the laboratory’s research capabilities and given opportunities to discuss ongoing research and findings with professors and researchers.

Topics of particular interest to the tour participants were those that address the specific needs of Qatar and the region such as the use of wireless communication in the oil and gas industry, utilizing seawater for process cooling and modifying Qatari soil and asphalt pavement to prevent road deterioration.

Khaled Elsaid, technical laboratory coordinator for the Chemical Engineering Department, said, “The visitors were very interested in desalination and pollutants treatment, the two main topics that the Water and Environmental Research Laboratories handle, among many other projects that are performed in the laboratories. With desalination, the laboratory is working on solving the problems related to brine discharge from inland desalination plants by providing a zero liquid discharge desalination technology. In terms of pollutants treatment, the laboratory is attempting to eliminate the different pollutants and contaminants present in water to make the water more safe.”

“It is important to show outside communities the research taking place at Texas A&M at Qatar because they will eventually see the effect of this research on our society,” said Wael Halbawi ¢11, a research assistant in the Wireless Communication Laboratory. “Sharing about our research can also create exciting new opportunities for collaboration and cooperation with other scientists and projects going on around the world.”

Dr. Jan Lublinski, a German broadcast journalist and tour participant, said the tour gave her a clear picture of the cutting-edge research pursued at Texas A&M at Qatar, and she plans to feature this research in a radio documentary on science in Qatar.

Tours such as these are part of a broader Texas A&M at Qatar priority to share its research with the scientific and industry communities both in Qatar and abroad. Through sharing this scholarship, Texas A&M at Qatar works to fulfill its vision of being “a valuable contributor to knowledge internationally and a valued resource to the State of Qatar.”
