What is the Buck Weirus Spirit Award?
This award was established in the early 1980s to recognize individual students who have made outstanding contributions to student life programs at Texas A&M. This award is named in honor of Mr. Richard "Buck" Weirus '42, past executive director of The Association of Former Students from 1964-1980. Weirus inititated the President's Endowed Scholarship, established the Century Club, and was a strong supporter of student involvement. Unlike other awards, the Buck Weirus Spirit Award recognizes those students who make contributions to the university through participation in student organizations, Aggie traditions and university events.
The Texas A&M at Qatar Buck Weirus Spirit Award is administered by the Department of Student Affairs and The Association of Former Students.
Gathright Scholar Award
The Thomas S. Gathright Scholar Academic Excellence Award is presented at Texas A&M at Qatar by the Academic Services Office in conjunction with The Association of Former Students. The award was established in April 1973 and is given annually to the outstanding sophomore, junior, and senior of each academic college. Named in honor of the first president of the A&M College of Texas, this award recognizes outstanding scholastic achievement on a university-wide scale. Three awards (sophomore, junior, and senior classifcations) are awarded at Texas A&M at Qatar.
Criteria for a prospective nominee shall be that he or she has the highest overall grade point ratio within his or her college classification. Mid-semester grades should not be used in computing the overall grade point ratio.
