Peer Tutoring
Do you want to reinforce your learning outside of class? Do you ever wonder if you understood a challenging concept covered in a course? Could you benefit from improving your study skills? Peer tutoring sessions can help!
Peer tutoring provides a structured opportunity for students to learn from students. Tutoring sessions are led by students who have performed well in the subject areas they cover. They incorporate their knowledge of TAMUQ-specific courses into their one-to-one or group tutoring sessions. They are trained to be active listeners and create a learner-centered, interactive environment during their tutoring sessions. Peer tutors are distinctively qualified to support students at any phase of their learning process.
Attending tutoring sessions can help you gain confidence and develop a growth mindset.
Peer tutors can help you:
-
- Understand specific course concepts
- Figure out the main ideas of the course materials
- Solve practice problems (but not homework!)
- Review for quizzes or tests
- Revise lab reports
Peer tutors typically support Chemistry, Math, Physics, and some fundamental engineering courses.
How to get the most out of a tutoring session
One-on-one appointments and small group sessions are conducted Face to Face. Online sessions can be offered if needed.
Tutors will be on time for tutoring sessions, so we ask you to be on time, too. To help the tutor prepare for your session, please be as specific as possible regarding the content. During the session, we encourage you to ask questions without worrying about making mistakes.
First-time users can register for an account any time and follow these steps for appointment booking.
Peer Tutors
Our Peer Tutors are enrolled students at Texas A&M University in Qatar who have maintained a GPA of 3.0 or above. They assist students in one-on-one or small group sessions in courses they have succeeded in with an A or B. Peer tutors don't solve homework problems. By reviewing course concepts and developing effective study habits, they assist students in finding their own answers and becoming an independent and active learner.
Peer tutors gain professional, leadership, and communication skills by facilitating their peers' learning. They also receive higher mentoring opportunities through weekly training meetings and individual meetings with their supervisors. Their role is to build community and model the Aggies' spirit for their peers.
