The AIChE-Student Chapter, at Qatar started as a club in the fall of 2005; two years after Texas A&M University established its branch campus in Qatar. In March 2008, with Dr. Salama as their chapter advisor, the Career and Education Operating Council of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers approved Texas A& M University at Qatar’s petition to become officially recognized as a chapter. At that time it was the first student chapter to be accepted outside the USA. Working on becoming a member of the global AIChE network, the mission of the chapter has been to promote and encourage professional progress among student members. The chapter has also been acting as a representative for chemical engineering students on campus and has established connections with the oil and gas industry in Qatar. The officers of the AIChE-Student Chapter at Texas A&M University at Qatar, for the first time attended and participated in the AIChE National Conference held in Utah November 2007. The AIChE-Student Chapter, Texas A&M University at Qatar follows and enforces the enforces the AIChE Code of Ethics.

Since its foundation, the AIChE-Student Chapter, Texas A&M University at Qatar has worked as an effective means of communication between the student body and the Chemical Engineering Program. In addition, the chapter has been coordinating a number of activities since its foundation, which include: field trips to local industries, lectures from academia and industry, promotional events for the Chemical Engineering Program, as well as social events.

Chemical engineering students at the University of Illinois founded OXE in 1931. The society currently includes more than 20,000 members and is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies. Since then, OXE societies throughout the world strive to benefit their respective university communities. The Gamma Delta Chapter at Texas A&M at Qatar is no different, as it aims to merit students who exhibit academic excellence and good character. New students admitted to the Chemical Engineering Program will have the chance to learn more about the field of Chemical Engineering through various events held by OXE.

The Texas A&M at Qatar chapter of OXE continuously strives to be the go-to organization for any problems students may face during their years as undergraduates or graduates, while supporting students and educating them about the benefits of pursuing academic excellence. The organization also strives to provide students with a platform for exhibiting and upholding essential values such as professionalism, service, and comradeship.
