Petroleum engineering is primarily concerned with the safe and economic extraction of oil, gas and other natural resources from the earth. This is accomplished through drilling, completions, and operation of wells while considering safety of personal and the natural environment. The field of petroleum engineering also covers the management of subsurface reservoirs in which the resources are found.

The Petroleum Engineering Program at Texas A&M University at Qatar is the branch of the Harold Vance Department of Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University, which is currently one of the top petroleum engineering programs in the United States. According to U.S. News & World Report, the petroleum engineering department at Texas A&M University ranks first among undergraduate petroleum engineering programs and second among graduate petroleum engineering programs in the United States.

Texas A&M's branch campus in Qatar, since its establishment in 2003, has offered petroleum engineering degrees at bachelor's level. Our undergraduate program provides our students with the best possible preparation to enter the oil and gas industry. The program currently has nine faculty members and is equipped with state-of-the-art lab and computing facilities.


The Bachelor of Science program in Petroleum Engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET,

We maintain an ABET-accredited program, provide a curriculum that includes a solid foundation in petroleum engineering fundamentals, and insist our students gain internship experience before they graduate. As a result, our graduates enter the industry ready to be productive contributors who also understand the need to continue learning and improving their skills throughout their careers.
