What is a competitive SAT score in math?
We evaluate your application in a holistic approach. But a score of 620 in math is generally considered competitive.
Does Texas A&M at Qatar require SAT subject examinations?
We do not require SAT subject examinations, but students who take these tests and submit high scores are favorably viewed during the admissions process. Moreover, you might be exempted from taking some freshman courses if you obtain certain scores. Please review the Undergraduate Catalog online.
What is a competitive ACT score in math?
We evaluate your application in a holistic approach. But a score of 26 in math is generally considered competitive.
If I am a native English speaker, do I have to submit a TOEFL score?
The TOEFL is not required if English is your native language, but it is definitely required if English is not your mother tongue.
What are the minimum TOEFL score required?
Applicants whose native language is not English are required to meet one of the following requirements:
A minimum TOEFL score of:
- 550 for paper-based testing (p-BT); or
- 213 for computer-based testing (c-BT); or
- 80 Internet-based testing (i-BT)
Instead of the TOEFL, applicants may demonstrate a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 overall band or a minimum score of 560 on the Critical Reading part of SAT or 21 on the English part of the ACT.
Does Texas A&M at Qatar accept IELTS scores?
Yes. An overall band score of 6.0 is required.
Does Texas A&M at Qatar accept test scores from previous years?
TOEFL and IELTS scores are valid for 2 years. SAT and ACT scores are valid for 5 years. If the validity of the scores you present is in question, you may ask an Admissions Officer to assist you in verifying their validity. You may be asked to take certain tests again if they were deemed to be invalid.
What other scores will satisfy the English requirement?
Applicants who have a minimum score of 560 on the English-based reading and writing part of the SAT or a score of 21 on the English part of the ACT.
What should my CV/résumé include?
You would need to include your academic and non-academic accomplishments, achievements and recognitions. These areas include extracurricular activities, leadership roles, community service, awards, talents, and employment.
Does Texas A&M at Qatar require A-levels for students attending British schools? If yes, how many subjects are required?
We require that candidates take the most rigorous curriculum offered at their respective secondary schools, so if A-levels are offered at your school, we expect that you complete at least 3 A-levels. The A-level courses are usually in advance mathematics, physics and chemistry.
What are the transfer admission criteria?
All transfer applicants must have completed 24 transferrable hours at the time of application, and must have at least a 2.5 grade point average.
What should the high school transcript include?
You need to submit your grades from all secondary schools attended. You are required to send the final grades for grade 10, 11, and 12 (grade 13 if applicable). Since you might be applying before the completion of your secondary school, we understand that the grade report will be partial or incomplete. In other words, you might apply prior to March 1, or months prior to your anticipated completion or graduation date, which may be in June or July. We will review your grades up to the point listed on your transcript and make an admission decision based only on the grades we have received up to that date. If admitted, you will be required to submit a full grade record or transcript that indicates the completion of your secondary school.
What is the minimum required high school work?
The following list shows recommended minimum courses. Most candidates who are offered admission will have taken full advantage of the most challenging courses offered at their high school or secondary school program.
- Four years of mathematics to include algebra, geometry, algebra II, pre-calculus, and an advanced mathematics course with calculus being the preferred subject
- Four years of science in physics, chemistry, and biology; priority consideration will be given to students enrolled in advanced chemistry and physics courses.
- English language preparatory courses indicating a high proficiency of understanding course content and concepts taught in the English language.

What are the required supporting documents for freshman admission?
Texas A&M at Qatar requires nine documents for your application to be considered complete:
- Completed online application
- A copy of your passport and residency permit (if you are residing in Qatar)
- Your official high school transcripts
- Official SAT or ACT scores
- Official TOEFL or IELTS scores
- Students résumé
- An essay describing your interest in attending Texas A&M at Qatar
- Two reference forms downloaded from the website
- Payment of application fee

Can I send copies of my transcripts and/or test scores?
No. We only accept official transcripts and test scores. Transcripts are only considered official if they bear a signature of a school or university official and/or sealed in an envelope. Test scores are only considered official if they were forwarded directly from the respective testing agency to the Office of Admissions. Please refer to the FAQ on Standardized Admission Test for information on how to forward your test scores to our campus.
How long should my essay be and what is it intended for?
We leave the length of the essay entirely to the discretion of the applicant, but it should be long enough to give us an insight on your dreams, aspirations, special skills and talents you may possess, as well as your unique character. You could tell us about why you want to study engineering and why you chose Texas A&M.
How much is the admissions application fee? How do you receive payments from students that live outside Qatar?
The application fee is QR 330, or the equivalence of $90 U.S. dollars. The application fee is non-refundable. Applicants have the option to pay online two weeks after submitting a copy of their passport or send a check by mail addressed to Texas A&M University at Qatar. You can also choose to pay in person at Texas A&M Engineering Building.
Who shall complete my two reference forms?
Your mathematics or science teacher must complete one form, while a school administrator or any other teacher can complete the other one. We cannot accept references from relatives and friends. You should check with your reference whether they will return this form to you, or send it directly to the University. The form must be enclosed in a sealed envelope. What is entailed in the admissions decision process, and when will candidates be notified of the decisions?
We start reviewing applications immediately after the application deadline to identify the most competitive candidates. The Admissions Board will take various aspects into account when determining whether or not a candidate will be admitted: high school grades, SAT or ACT test results, TOEFL or IELTS results, the essay, resume/CV, references, the uniqueness of the candidate as determined by his essay, and resume/CV. Applications are evaluated holistically and fairly by the Admissions Board.
How can I apply for admissions to Texas A&M University at Qatar?
Applications for admission must be submitted online. An electronic application can be accessed here. Please respect the application deadlines. Texas A&M University at Qatar is very strict about the application deadlines. We encourage all applications to be submitted as early as possible. We consider an early application as a good indication of keen interest in attending Texas A&M University at Qatar.
When can I apply for admissions to Texas A&M University at Qatar?
For freshman applicants: Freshman applicants can only apply for the fall semester. You can submit your application between 1 September and 1 March. The application deadline is 1 March. Please submit your application and all supporting documents, including all test scores, on or before 1 March. Applications will not be accepted after this date.
For Transfer Applicants: Transfer applicants can either apply for the fall or spring semester.
Fall admission is open between 15 January and 1 April. The application deadline is April 1. Please submit your application and all supporting documents, including all test scores, on or before April 1. Applications will not be accepted after this date.Spring admission is open between 1 September and 15 October. The application deadline is 15 October. Please submit your application and all supporting documents, including all test scores, on or before October 15. Applications will not be accepted after this date.
FINANCIAL MATTERS
Tuition, Financial Aid and Scholarships
For information related to the current tuition fees visit this page. These amounts are all inclusive (e.g., books, a laptop computer and necessary software, and associated fees) except for the cost of room and board.
The cost also includes tuition fees for any courses you may take at another Education City university as a cross-registered student. Tuition is subject to change annually and does not include the cost of summer school.
RECEIVING CREDIT
Does Texas A&M at Qatar grant transfer credits for course work completed at other institutions?
Transfer credit on course work completed at the time of application to Texas A&M University at Qatar is only granted if an official transcript from the university in which the coursework was completed is submitted as part of the application for admission. The Office of Records on a course-by-course basis will determine the transfer credits. Official transcript should be sealed and stamped. Will I receive credit for AP, IB or SAT subject examinations?
Yes. However, you would have to get certain scores in order to receive credits. We could only start reviewing your advanced credits standing after you have been admitted to the university. Please consult the undergraduate University catalog for further information regarding credit by examination. After being admitted to Texas A&M University at Qatar, you will need to meet with your Academic Advisor regarding your AP, IB and SAT subject scores and the potential of receiving credits.

Which standardized admission exams are required for freshman admission?
As a freshman student, you will be required to sit for:

What is the ACT international?
The ACT is an exam composed of four sections: English, mathematics, reading and science reasoning, with an optional writing test. Each section is scored on a scale of 1 – 36. The composite score is the average of the four sections.
Are all sections of the ACT required?
Yes. You need to complete all four sections. Each part will be evaluated during the admission process.

What is the ACT residual?
ACT Residual is offered at the Education City specifically for students applying to one of the six universities in Education City. No other university or college will accept its scores. The results of the Residual ACT will be automatically sent to all six universities in Education City.

If you do not meet the English proficiency requirements, is there an intensive English program?
If I do not meet the English proficiency requirement, is there an intensive English program?
Yes. Based in main campus in College Station, Texas, the English Language Institute at Texas A&M offers semester-long, or one-year-long intensive English programs to increase English proficiency and mastery.
It is important to note that admission into the English Language Institute at Texas A&M does not equate admission to Texas A&M University, or Texas A&M University at Qatar.
Upon completion of the program, students will have to reapply to either Texas A&M at Qatar, or Texas A&M University. To apply to the English Language Institute, visit https://eli.tamu.edu/.

What is the SAT reasoning test?
SAT Reasoning Test is an admission exam that evaluates your reading, writing, and mathematics skills. It is composed of three sections: Critical Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. Each section is scored on a scale of 200-800.

Does Texas A&M at Qatar have students’ dorms on campus? If yes, what is the cost per academic year?
Yes. The cost will be allocated by the kind of room available as there are 4 different room types. The range is QR 8,240-9,940 ($ 2,265 – $ 2,730) per semester.
Does Texas A&M at Qatar process visa applications to Qatar, and do you offer residence permits for enrolled students?
We help our admitted international students in obtaining residency permits through our sponsoring organization, Qatar Foundation. We have got a designated person who takes care of all immigration related matters.
Does Texas A&M University at Qatar require immunizations for registration?
Texas A&M University at Qatar requires immunizations and the submission of immunization records as a requirement for class registration. International students (students in Qatar for the sole purpose of attending Texas A&M at Qatar) are required to submit immunization records to the Counseling and Wellness Program in order to register for courses. Students should be screened for TB and submit the results to the Counseling and Wellness program coordinator before registration for classes.
Do I need health insurance?
Once you arrive in Qatar you will have access to government medical care and services for free. Until you receive your Resident Permit, you should carry a copy of your passport with you just in case of a medical emergency. Texas A&M University System rules (26.99.01) require all international students (students who are in Qatar for the sole purpose of attending school) to be covered under our Student health Insurance Plan or have equivalent insurance coverage. The Qatar government medical card fits the “equivalent insurance coverage” criteria. You do have the option to purchase private insurance, which may provide you with more timely and affordable access to care at any of the private medical facilities in Qatar. International students are also required by the Texas A&M System rules (26.99.01) to purchase Evacuation and Repatriation coverage (approximately US $25.00/year).
