Bickham presents lecture on War of 1812 book

Published Oct 14, 2012

Dr. Troy Bickham, associate professor of history and chair of the liberal arts program, on 14 Oct., gave a public lecture at the National Archives in Washington D.C. regarding his recently published book "The Weight of Vengeance: The United States, The British Empire and the War of 1812." In it, Bickham placed this “forgotten war” in a global context, portraying a US that saw an opportunity to challenge Britain’s dominance, and a Britain that feared the rise of US maritime power and territorial expansion. The War of 1812 was a turning point for both countries and marked a critical moment of self-definition for the two nations.
