Published Nov 30, 2011

The Council of Debating Engineers (CODE) organized the University's first Student Faculty Debate on 30 Nov.

The motion stated, "This house believes affirmative action should be abolished." Dr. Jennifer Heeg, visiting assistant professor, and Dr. Paul Schumacher, assistant professor, won the debate. Schumacher said, "The topic was well-chosen to be both debatable and lively. The debate teams and audience both seemed very engaged." Dr. Rodney X. Sharkey, assistant professor, Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar, served as chief adjudicator.
