Qaraqe publishes first paper on visible light channel modeling in gas pipelines

Electrical and computer engineering professor Dr. Khalid Qaraqe, in collaboration with Dr. Murat Uysal from Ozyegin University in Turkey and their teams, have published the first paper exploring the use of visible light communication (VLC) to wirelessly monitor gas pipelines. The paper, "Visible Light Channel Modeling for Gas Pipelines," was published in the IEEE Photonics Journal. Qaraqe created a simulation to precisely define a pipeline's channel, the reflective characteristics of its interior coating, gas specifications and specifications of its light sources and detectors, even through communication limits in the presence of gas. Qaraqe is now exporting the VLC technology to Qatar's North Field to capture well data.
