Texas A&M at Qatar sweeps BRIO awards

Published Apr 18, 2018

Texas A&M at Qatar faculty and staff placed first, second and tied for third in the BRIO (best representative image of an outcome) competition. In its second year, the BRIO awards, an initiative of Qatar National Research Fund, selects and assesses images for their scientific and visual impact. The first-place image (top), "A Microscopic Image of a Vertical Cut of an Artificial Collagen Skin Layer," comes from a NPRP-funded project led by Dr. Khalid Qaraqe. Second place (bottom left) went to Dr. Bilal Mansoor's "3D Illustration of a Ti/TiN nano-coating under compression" and tied for third (bottom right) was the UREP-funded "Dual Viscous Fingering Effect Observed when Displacing Glycerine by Dyed Water in a Hele-Shaw Cell" by Rommel Yrac and Dr. Nayef Alyafei. Fifty images were submitted this cycle and an expert panel shortlisted seven. These finalists were exhibited at ARC '18 and around 3,000 votes were cast online to determine the final rankings.
