Tafreshi honored for teaching excellence

Dr. Reza Tafreshi, associate professor in the Mechanical Engineering Program at Texas A&M University at Qatar, has received the 2018 Distinguished Achievement College-level Award for Teaching from the Texas A&M University Association of Former Students. Tafreshi has been a faculty member at Texas A&M at Qatar for 11 years and has made tremendous contributions toward the creation of a vibrant teaching atmosphere at Texas A&M at Qatar. He is described as an inspirational teacher who employs creative approaches to engage students in active learning to improve their problem-solving, communication and process-design skills. One student praised his method of teaching and said his incredible attitude towards the class and the material taught made for an unforgettable learning experience. Another student noted Tafreshi’s support of student learning, saying that Tafreshi places high value on student projects that allow students to grow in ways that a classroom does not permit. Tafreshi is a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
