Texas A&M at Qatar acknowledges Oxy Qatar for longtime collaboration and sponsorship milestone

Texas A&M University at Qatar honored Occidental Petroleum of Qatar Ltd. (Oxy Qatar) with a place on the Paragons recognition wall, which distinguishes top supporters and partners in the industry and community in Qatar.

Oxy Qatar has continuously supported Texas A&M at Qatar’s engineering student programs, particularly in petroleum engineering. Oxy Qatar support has included aiding petroleum engineering student development with contribution of funds allowing their attendance to the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) annual conference and similar colloquiums within the region, sponsorship of Texas A&M at Qatar's Senior Design Project Day and the growth of the SPE student chapter. For the fourth year in a row, it was named as the Outstanding Chapter of the Year.

Earlier this year, Oxy Qatar sought to help the branch campus's educational outreach efforts directed to motivate students from grade 7 - 12 to opt educational pathways for careers in fields related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). This initiative augments the skills of the students in Qatar and propelling the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030. The partnership constitutes on years of successful STEM enrichment programs offered by Texas A&M at Qatar. The initiative encourages both teachers and students through a large portfolio of academic programs and workshops designed to help students find a route for academic success. 

Andrew H. Kershaw, President & General Manager of Oxy Qatar attended the unveiling of the Paragons special wall tile at the Texas A&M at Qatar’s dean’s office and said, "Oxy is proud of its enduring partnership with Texas A&M both here in Qatar as well as in the United States.  We have supported the university for many years and have employed some of the best, world class graduates that the university produces. We at Oxy, believe in continuing to strengthen our ties with academia and to support centres of learning excellence such as Texas A&M at Qatar.  At Oxy, everywhere we live and work, we strive to support our communities and to help drive continuous improvement in education, both now as well as for the increasing future challenges. Oxy thanks TAMUQ and the Dean for his wise leadership and for this recognition and we wish everyone every possible success going forward."
