Published Dec 05, 2018

Electrical and computer engineering professors Dr. Erchin Serpedin and Dr. Khalid Qaraqe, together with their former Ph.D. student Dr. Sangwoo Park, received the IEEE Signal Processing Magazine Best Column Award for year 2018 for their paper, "Gaussian Assumption: The Least Favorable but the Most Useful." The paper was first published in the March 2013 issue of the prestigious IEEE Signal Processing Magazine. The paper's findings have countless applications in many fields, such as signal and image processing, computer vision, machine learning, radar, biomedical engineering, wireless communications and system identification. The award will be presented during the IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP 2019), Brighton, U.K., in May 2019. The conference is the flagship conference of the IEEE Signal Processing Society and the premier international conference on signal processing and its applications.
