Students visit QATALUM facilities to learn about manufacturing operations
Published Jan 31, 2019Twenty-six mechanical engineering students recently visited QATALUM's manufacturing plant as part of their Materials and Manufacturing Selection in Design course taught by mechanical engineering assistant professor Dr. Bilal Mansoor and Technical Laboratory Coordinator Muhammad bin Yousaf. Students learned through technical presentations and demonstrations about the aluminum production process. Students also toured the facility where aluminum reduction is carried out from raw materials and the casting facility where students observed the casting of molten aluminum into special alloys and shaped products. The visit helped students better understand the complexities of large-scale manufacturing operations and typical working environments of a mechanical engineer.
