Texas A&M at Qatar hosts potential master’s students for annual open house
Published Mar 14, 2019Texas A&M University at Qatar recently welcomed potential master’s students for its annual Graduate Studies Open House in the Texas A&M Engineering Building in Education City.
The event aimed to answer questions for prospective students about Texas A&M at Qatar’s master’s degrees in chemical engineering: the Master of Science and Master of Engineering.
Attendees learned about Texas A&M at Qatar’s graduate program offerings, degree eligibility requirements and the resources offered including financial aid opportunities and flexible schedules. Potential graduate students interacted with current graduate students and some who have recently graduated with their master’s degrees. Faculty and administrators gave information on the program, as well as part-time employment options for full-time students through teaching and research assistantships.
Hania Ayyash, Graduate Studies manager, emphasized that Texas A&M at Qatar’s flexible class schedules allow part-time studies for those students who are employed full time in industry or government.
“Several of our graduate students are employed full time in local industry and many students are employed by Texas A&M at Qatar as graduate assistants while they earn their master’s degrees,” Ayyash said. “We particularly are proud of the fact that more than 50 percent of our master’s graduates continue into Ph.D. programs around the world.”
During the open house, master’s students Razan Ahmed and Ahmed AlYazidi talked with prospective students about the graduate program and their experiences as students at Texas A&M at Qatar. A panel discussion, “The Role of Graduate Education in a Knowledge-based Economy,” featured Mohamed Al Enazi, CAO, ORYX GTL; Dr. Konstantinos Kakosimos, Texas A&M at Qatar chemical engineering associate professor; Dr. Dhabia Al Mohannadi, assistant professor of chemical engineering at Texas A&M at Qatar; Dr. Ayman Bassil, Capacity Building Senior Manager, Qatar National Research Fund and Wajdi Alnoush, research associate at Texas A&M at Qatar.
Dr. Patrick Linke, executive director of graduate studies and chair of the Chemical Engineering Program at Texas A&M at Qatar, said, “The panel discussion clearly highlighted the need to continuously learn and be adaptable to address emerging challenges of an evolving economy. The importance of very solid foundations has become very obvious, particularly for engineers. Graduate education at master’s and doctoral levels are a very important step towards building a solid foundation of knowledge and skills demanded by the challenge of the 21st century.”
Applications for the Master of Science (M.S.) and Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) programs are being accepted for the Fall 2019 semester and will remain open until 15 May 2019.
