Electrical engineering research scientist and faculty receive prestigious IEEE award

Assistant research scientist Dr. Muhammad Ismail and professors Dr. Erchin Serpedin and Dr. Khalid Qaraqe in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Program received the prestigious Best Conference Paper Award from the IEEE Communications Society Technical Committee on Green Communications and Computing for "the outstanding scientific contributions" reported in their paper, "Energy Efficient Optimization of Base Station Density for VLC Networks." It was presented recently at the IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC) in Shanghai, China. The ICC is one of the flagship conferences of IEEE Communications Society and is dedicated to promoting innovation in all aspects of communications. The conference is attended by 2,500 participants annually. The paper was also co-authored by postdoctoral fellow at Texas A&M University, Dr. Han-Bae Kong.
