Incoming Texas A&M University at Qatar freshmen — Omar Affifi, Sayed Afnaan Ahmed, Fatima Ali, Wejdan Al-Sanadi, and Beena Debnath — joined 27 of their counterparts from Texas A&M University this summer in the Italian hill town of Castiglion Fiorentino for the Memorial Student Center Conway-Fitzhugh International Honors Leadership Seminar. The annual seminar is put on as a joint collaborative between the Division of Student Affairs from Texas A&M at Qatar and the Memorial Student Center from Texas A&M's main campus.

The program is a personal and academic introduction to students' next four years at Texas A&M University while also engaging them in intercultural activities during their time in Italy.  The seminar included sessions about whatTexas A&M and college in general will be like (such as professionalism, getting involved, registering for classes, working with others, etc.); visits to nearby Italian cities, such as Florence, Asisi, Arezzo, Cortona and Venice; Italian lessons; art classes at a local studio; and plenty of rich historical and cultural information. The five Texas A&M at Qatar students were also provided an opportunity to present and answer questions about the Qatar campus and Qatar in general, thus creating a bridge between the two campuses.
