Gray publishes new book on totalitarian politics

Dr. Phillip W. Gray, assistant professor of political science in the Liberal Arts Program, has published a new book, Vanguardism: Ideology and Organization in Totalitarian Politics.
Providing an innovative conceptualization to extremist political movements founded upon “world-historic” populations and vanguard party organizations, the book sets out a new path in investigating the intellectual and historical influences that created extremist politics, the totalitarian movements and regimes of the 20th century, and a framework for interpreting extremism in the present.
“I wrote this book so I could better understand a very modern type of evil," Gray said. "Now that it is finished, hopefully, others can use the book in trying to stop these evils.”
