Political science professor to lead Liberal Arts Program

TAMUQ-2020-Ura-Liberal-Arts-chairDr. Joseph Ura has been appointed chair of the Liberal Arts Program effective 1 Sept. for a four-year term.

Ura has served as interim chair for of the Liberal Arts Program since January. He joined the Texas A&M at Qatar faculty from Texas A&M’s main campus in 2019 as associate professor of political science and was  recently promoted to professor with tenure.

A scholar of American politics, Ura is known as an outstanding teacher and mentor. In fall 2019, he was selected to receive Association of Former Students College-level Distinguished Achievement Award for Teaching for his outstanding teaching in and out of the classroom as a faculty member in the College of Liberal Arts at main campus, where in 12 years he taught more than 4,000 Aggies of all majors and disciplines. He is described as a rare and extraordinary teacher who has made unique and valuable contributions to teaching at Texas A&M while building a nationally recognized record of scholarly achievement and service.

Ura  brought extensive administrative experience to Texas A&M at Qatar when he joined the branch campus, having previously served as associate head, director of undergraduate programs and director of the American Politics Program in the Department of Political Science.
