Texas A&M at Qatar faculty and staff host entrepreneurship workshops

Faculty and staff from Texas A&M University at Qatar and Texas A&M University will be hosting workshops on sustainable industrial design, technical standards for entrepreneurs, product design, and more, in the upcoming Qatar Entrepreneurship Conference (Rowad) from 15 to 19 Nov. 2020 as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week. 

Rowad Qatar, an annual initiative of Qatar Development Bank, focuses on entrepreneurship activities and achievements that take place locally and internationally. The conference acts as a platform for entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to enhance their skills and knowledge while further fostering this ecosystem in Qatar.

Introduction to Technical Standards for Aspiring Entrepreneurs, 15 Nov.
4 – 5 p.m.
Technical standards, such as ASTM and ISO, are documents that provide a common thought-space to professionals from different and diverse industries to work together on important projects. During this short workshop, participants will join Dr. Bilal Mansour, associate professor, to learn what these standards are and how they are used in quality systems, sustainability, product testing, commercial transactions, and in research and development around the globe.

Academia-Industry Collaboration: How to Foster Entrepreneurship Culture in Qatar, 16 Nov.
11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
The panel, part of the Rowad Qatar opening ceremony, invites experts from academia and industry to discuss fostering entrepeneurship and collaborations between the two. The panel will be moderated by Dr. Marwan Khraisheh, Chair of Mechanical Engineering Program, and Dr. Hassan S. Bazzi, Associate Dean for Research and Advancement, will be part of the panel. 

Materials Selection and Eco-Audit for Sustainable Industrial Design, 16 Nov.
4 – 5 p.m.
Explore the materials dimension of sustainable industrial design and implement quick, approximate “portraits” of energy/CO2 character of products. During this workshop, Dr. Bilal Mansour will discuss industrial design and what role materials selection plays in revealing the eco-fingerprint of products and in suggesting approaches to making them less environmentally damaging.

Building a Technology Start-Up From University Based Innovations, 17 Nov.
4 – 5p.m.
The workshop, led by Dr. Saurabh Biswas, Executive Director of Commercialization and Entrepreneurship at Texas A&M University’s College of Engineering, will discuss important aspects of creating a technology focused start-up and will cover issues like IP, regulatory matters, and other business considerations. 

Product Design Journey, 19 Nov.
3 – 4 p.m.
Product design and development is the key formula for success in today’s competitive market. This talk, with Dr. Yasser Al-Hamidi, is meant to walk audiences through the product development process and organization and shed light on technical engineering aspects, which play a major role in realizing ideas into tangible real products.
