Petroleum engineering seniors compete virtually in annual paper contest

Seniors in the Petroleum Engineering Program at Texas A&M University at Qatar recently competed in the program’s annual senior student paper contest.

Eight students presented their papers in two virtual rooms to panels composed of nine industry experts. Winners of the competition were as follows:

Virtual Room 1

  • First Place: Ahmed El-Agnaf
  • Second Place: Ahmad Asaad

Virtual Room 2

  • First Place: Muneera Al-Reyahi
  • Second Place: Rashid Almusleh and Fay Alsulaiti

Judging the contest were Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim, Schlumberger; Lucas Osorio, ExxonMobil; Dr. Mayur Pal, North Oil Company; Todd Creeger, ConocoPhillips Qatar; Asfandiar Ansari and Haytham Abdulaziz M A Al Meer, Qatargas; Dr. Tariq Masood, formerly with QP; Dr. Othman Al Yafei, Dolphin Energy; and Halil Turan, Total.

The Senior Student Paper Contest is a part of the petroleum engineering course curriculum. Students perform research in the fall, develop a technical paper and then present it in the spring semester during the contest.

Dr. Ioannis G. Economou, associate dean of academic affairs, welcomed the students and judges and noted the commendable efforts of the petroleum engineering faculty, students and industry partners in bringing the competition to life. Program Chair Dr. Albertus Retnanto also welcomed all the attendees in the event. Faculty members Dr. Mahmood Amani, Dr. Harris Rabbani and Dr. Mohamed Fadlelmula acted as moderators for the event.

The course instructor, Dr. Aziz Rahman, thanked everyone for their outstanding contributions in making the event a successful one.
