Published Mar 14, 2021

Texas A&M University at Qatar’s Support Office (TSO) hosted its first virtual Culture Week that brought students from Texas A&M University’s College Station and Qatar campuses together for a cross-cultural exchange.

Virtual Culture Week 2021 highlighted the different cultures that make up the A&M System and brought awareness to the diversity of Texas A&M at Qatar. In the Qatar segment, audiences learned more about local history and culture and met with Aggies from the Texas A&M at Qatar campus. In addition to Qatar, audiences also explored countries from South Asia, Far-East Asia, Middle East, Africa and South America. The week wrapped up with the audience participating in a giveaway by answering questions about the cultures and traditions they had seen over the week.

“Participating in the Culture Week event was a great experience and a great opportunity to showcase our culture and heritage to our fellow Aggies beyond the borders of Education City and Qatar,” said Rand Alagha, president of the Palestinian Culture Club at Texas A&M at Qatar. “Getting the chance to educate people about different aspects of the Palestinian culture, including the cuisine, different accents, country appearance, clothes, and more, while at the same time learning about all of the other cultures that were featured in the event was very eye-opening, informative, and fun!”

Hasan Al-Dhahabi, president of the TAMU Arabic Club at Texas A&M University, said, “During Culture Week, we achieved to spread awareness of the Arabic culture to students from different cultures and backgrounds. I was honored to be part of that event and was able to explain the real images of the Arabic culture.”

TSO’s Sausha-Rae Brown said, “Virtual Culture Week was all about evolving; continuing to not only learn but respect cultural differences. We hope to develop something similar for next year that will unify our campuses even more.”

TSO aims to serves as the hub of communication between Texas A&M’s College Station and Qatar campuses. TSO facilitates the student exchange trips, assists in building relationships between entities, and represents the Qatar campus in various events and meetings as needed.
