Twenty-nine students from across Qatar Foundation’s partner universities were certified by the Association of Project Management (APM) in a Fundamentals of Project Management Course presented in collaboration with TAFWOQ-Qatar Shell during the Center for Teaching and Learning’s spring break engineering enrichment cycle. Students from Texas A&M at Qatar, Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, Georgetown University in Qatar and Hamad Bin Khalifa University successfully completed the course. APM is the only chartered body for the project profession and is committed to developing and promoting the value of project management to deliver improved project outcomes for the benefit of society.

“I was delighted to be asked to support Tafawoq and the University in delivering the Fundamentals of Project Management course to students in the final stage of their studies,” said Peter Simon, BSc PMP HonFAPM, Lead Facilitator, Tafawoq-Qatar Shell. “The course was preparation for the APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (by examination) and is a first for Qatar. I regard the course as an important stepping stone for students as they transition to the next stage in their careers. A sound understanding of the principles of project management is a key skill that will serve them well for many years to come.”

CMUQ student Samir Abdaljalil said, “I would like to thank the Center for Teaching and Learning at Texas A&M at Qatar for this beneficial opportunity. As a soon-to-be graduate from Carnegie Mellon University in a time where starting a career can be somewhat of a challenge, experimenting with different fields is crucial for me to be able to decide what career path to go down, and this opportunity has provided me with a great experience when it came to exploring project management.”

Additionally, more than 100 students from throughout Education City took part in a blend of face-to-face and online professional development courses during the spring cycle, with course topics ranging from the Magic of AI by Ericsson, negotiation for success, the power of PowerPoint, data analysis tools, problem solving, computational fluid dynamics, laser cutting and 3D printing.
