Graduates recognized for senior design project
Published Mar 28, 2022Three Class of 2021 electrical and computer engineering graduates from Texas A&M University at Qatar were recently recognized by the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency, "Tarsheed." Hissa Al-Darwish, Asmahan Al-Kuwari and Sara Al-Mulla were recognized for winning the Tarsheed Best Renewable Energy Research Project Award in 2021 for their senior design project, “Penetration of Large Photovoltaic (PV) System (800 MW) into Qatar’s Distribution Grid.” The project looked at enhancing production of renewable energy in Qatar’s grids. Their idea was to use the photovoltaic system to turn solar power into electrical energy using Qatar’s Al Kharsaah Photovoltaic Power Plant as their focus. The students were mentored by Professor Haitham Abu-Rub and Associate Research Scientist Shady Khalil. The COVID-19 pandemic prevented the students from being recognized in person in 2021.
