CTL recognizes SIs and peer tutors

The Center for Teaching and Learning held its first Tutors and Supplemental Instruction (SI) Awards ceremony 11 April 2022. The event aimed to recognize the SIs' and peer tutors’ achievements, service and the impact they make on the learning experience of Aggies at Texas A&M at Qatar.

Three students were awarded for their exemplary performance for Academic Year 20221-2022:

  • Afsha Shaikh ’22 PETE — Supplemental Instruction Leader of the Year, in recognition of her perseverance, loyalty to the SI program and exceeding expectations in serving as Math SI leader.
  • Inas Mahir Hussein, HBKU computer science Class of 2023 — Tutor of the Year, in recognition of her professionalism and commitment to helping the students, particularly in their math and physics courses.
  • Nadeen Issa ’22 CHEN — Outstanding Performance in recognition for her involvement in both SI and peer tutoring for three years, as well as her active participation in many CTL activities.

Dr. Bilal Mansoor, CTL director, addressed the students and commended them for their efforts in helping their peers in their learning process. Dr. Nordine Mir, a faculty member from the Science Program, also gave a few words to highlight the importance of the SI and peer tutoring program in assisting students in their studies, and in appreciation of the tutors for their dedication and commitment. 

During the program, Joelle Fadlallah, program coordinator for tutoring services, presented statistics showing the SI program's impact on the retention and persistence of Aggies at the Qatar Campus. She also mentioned that the tutoring program is highly popular among first- and second-year students because it helps them with their fundamental science and math courses.
