Texas A&M University at Qatar students, Asad Abu AlRub '26, Khalid Al Halabi '24 and Hussein Al Jawad '24, were declared winners at the Computer Aided Design (CAD) competition, organized by The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) with cooperation with Schlumberger recently.

Over 30 students from Texas A&M at Qatar's mechanical engineering program participated. The competition allowed undergraduate and graduate students to show off their CAD skills and learn new techniques as they competed to design a gate valve using CAD software, SolidWorks, in less than an hour.

At the beginning of the competition, Schlumberger’s representative gave a brief introduction on the nature of work of the oil and gas companies. Schlumberger is one of the foremost oilfields services company.

The competition started with competitors using SolidWorks to design a Gate Valve within one hour. The designs were graded against a rubric created by ASME and Schlumberger.
