The discussion was on the Green Paper to develop a future vision of the Production & Facilities (P&F) function from 2025-35 and is its relation to the recent energy transition. Dr. Rahman was part of the Work Group and presented feedback from Phase 2 of the Green Paper to collect regional perspectives and variations in the vision of the P&F function beyond 2025. The original idea was to develop a set of recommendations for the various stakeholders, including SPE, on what was needed to help us excel in a rapidly changing business and operational environment in relation to the energy transition. Dr. Rahman emphasized that “willingness from the leadership for incremental spending on the existing facilities, new techniques, and solutions are necessary with an increasing focus on sustainability for the era of facilities design and operations”. He mentioned that "we need to prioritize the need for a global watchdog on emissions and emphasized on a diversified academic curriculum to create new engineering leaders".
