Published Nov 19, 2022

Texas A&M University at Qatar alumni Samar Elkhalifa (’16 MS CHEN) recently published an article on Physical Health Promotion in Light of the Holy Qur’an and Islamic Sunnah in  Religions/Adyan, a scholarly journal issued by the Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue.

While at Texas A&M at Qatar, her research project with her faculty advisor, Dr. Konstantinos Kakosimos was based on concepts related to safety and health and environment. “My discussions with Dr. Kakosimos gave me different perspectives, and this led on the journey which culminated in this paper. Being an Aggie, we are driven to find answers to important questions, and to dig deep while doing research. We are empowered to think critically, and to stay focused. These skills helped me a lot. In addition to that, being a student of Texas A&M at Qatar opens up many opportunities for its students.

The publication is on physical health promotion in light of Holy Quran and Sunnah. She said, “This paper aims to shed light on some of the forgotten and overlooked aspects of Islamic teachings in which human health is considered a priority. It looks at nutrition, physical activity, and the role of different Islamic pillars in maintaining the health and well-being of Muslims and those who choose to follow the guidance provided by Islam. The recent literature is also highlighted in order to arrive at a more comprehensive review and to provide this paper with the uniqueness and thoroughness needed to make it a reference of Islamic promotion and guidance of physical health.”

"Having said that, I advise everyone to pursue such opportunities, whether in religious or scientific or any type of journals with topics that need to be addressed, and whenever you can make a valuable contribution based on your education and skills."
