Texas A&M University at Qatar recently hosted a Sustainability Showcase organized by the Qatar Society of Petroleum Engineers in partnership with the university’s Flow Assurance Club. The goal of the event was to educate the engineering community about sustainability from an oil and gas perspective.

During the event, engineering students presented innovative models of sustainable energy solutions with the potential to transform the energy industry. Industry experts from various companies including North Oil Company and SLB attended the event to evaluate the proposed solutions and models, and to provide valuable feedback and guidance for future research.

Ahmed Afzal’s model relating to solar power tracking received the best model prize.

“It was an honor to present our project to our peers, faculty and industry experts,” Afzal said. “I am delighted to have won the best model award. It was an educational experience not just to build my own project, but also to learn about the projects my peers built. It was also great to receive feedback from people who are actually working in the oil and gas industry.”

Petroleum Engineering associate professor Dr. Aziz Rahman, who was part of the organizing team, congratulated the students for their work.

“Our students have showcased some incredible projects that can have a positive impact on sustainability,” Rahman said. “As we build future engineering leaders, it is important for us to focus on educating our students on the role they can play in building innovative solutions for challenges that our world is facing. Congratulations to all the participants.”
