Student leaders build global bonds through exchange between Qatar and Texas

Published Mar 20, 2025

Sixteen student leaders from Texas A&M University’s College Station campus recently visited Doha as part of the Student Leadership Exchange Program (SLEP) — a weeklong intercultural experience hosted by Texas A&M University at Qatar. The program is designed to foster global leadership, mutual understanding and lasting connections among Aggies across the world.

While in Doha, the visiting students participated in leadership development sessions, Arabic language classes and cultural experiences ranging from a desert safari to tours of the National Museum of Qatar and Souq Waqif. The exchange also featured a visit to the Education City campus and multiple opportunities for meaningful interaction with fellow Qatar Aggies.

The week culminated in a memorable farewell iftar — a celebration of shared learning, friendship and the global Aggie Spirit.

Ten student leaders from Texas A&M at Qatar traveled to the flagship campus in College Station for the second leg of the exchange. During their visit, students engaged in team-building activities, public speaking workshops, and leadership sessions, while also learning more about Aggie traditions and campus life.

Their time in Texas included campus tours, a basketball game, visits to Houston and the George Bush Presidential Library, and a night at Cirque du Soleil — offering an immersive experience that blended education with cultural exploration.

SLEP is a signature program that not only strengthens the global bond between the Qatar and College Station campuses but also equips students with essential leadership skills to thrive in a diverse, interconnected world.
