Texas A&M at Qatar Ph.D. student wins top honor at SPE MENA Regional Contest
Published May 30, 2025Issac John Jayachandran, a Ph.D. student in petroleum engineering at Texas A&M University at Qatar, took first place in the Ph.D. category of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Middle East and North Africa Regional Student Paper Contest, held during the SPE/IADC Middle East Drilling Technology Conference in Abu Dhabi.
Jayachandran impressed a distinguished panel of judges with his research presentation and will go on to represent both Texas A&M at Qatar and the entire MENA region at the international SPE Student Paper Contest in Houston this October.
Also representing the university with strong performances were petroleum engineering students Ali Al-Haddad ’25 and Tasnim Ahsan ’25, along with Ph.D. student Zurwa Khan. Their participation highlighted the depth of academic excellence and innovation within the petroleum engineering program.
This recognition reinforces Texas A&M at Qatar’s commitment to academic and research excellence in the energy sector and the success of its students on the global stage.
