Aggies celebrate Garangao halfway through Ramadan

Published Aug 22, 2010

The Office of Student and Community Relations, in collaboration with the Student Body Government, on Wednesday hosted Garangao for the Texas A&M at Qatar community.

Garangao is a traditional celebration for children that takes place on the 14th day of Ramadan. Children dress in traditional clothing and knock on doors in their neighborhoods to collect sweets and nuts. As part of the festival, children use special cotton bags hanging loosely from the neck while singing a Garangao song. For information contact Reem Almarri: reem.almarri@qatar.tamu.edu.
