Texas A&M at Qatar's Office of Student and Community Relations, in collaboration with Qatar Petroleum, this week hosted the inaugural Texas A&M at Qatar Industry Day in Education City. Leaders from the Qatar commercial and industrial sectors, in addition to GCC companies, were in attendance to learn about the University’s engineering programs.

“Industry Day is aimed at facilitating an increased awareness of what Texas A&M at Qatar has to offer the local community,” said Dr. Mark H. Weichold, dean and CEO of Texas A&M at Qatar. “This event is designed for industry leaders to learn more about our programs, students, research and our institutional goals.”

The program began with a speech by HE Dr. Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada, minister of state for energy and industry affairs. Al-Sada said academics and industry complement each other, and he stressed the importance of helping Texas A&M at Qatar to fulfill its mission.

“The challenge is the human resource,” Al-Sada said. “Universities like Texas A&M at Qatar are essential to our business as we rely on this sector for training, academics and research.”

The program also included presentations from the University’s four engineering programs, the liberal arts program and senior design project coordinators as well as from Dr. Prasad Enjeti, associate dean for academic affairs. Dr. Jim Holste, associate dean for research and graduate studies, presented an update of research projects.

Industry day concluded with an announcement from Dr. Othmane Bouhali, director of research computing, that the University’s immersive visualization competition has been expanded to include all of Education City, Qatar University and local industry.
