Qatar Emir’s visit to Education City makes headlines

HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani visited Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) and Education City — including Texas A&M University at Qatar — 4 Dec.

HH the Emir’s visit was widely reported in Qatar by Qatar News Agency (QNA), and in news media, including Gulf Times, Qatar Tribune and The Peninsula.

QNA reported that at Texas A&M at Qatar, where HH the Emir toured a laboratory for converting natural gas to high-quality fuel products such as jet fuel; the water and environment laboratory, which collaborates with many departments in Qatar for water and environment strategies; and the wireless communications laboratory.

During his visit to QF, HH the Emir was briefed on QF’s plans for helping realize the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the foundation’s contribution to the development and economy of Qatar. HH the Emir also was briefed about the curricula and educational services provided by the foundation, as well as the Education City projects such as student accommodations, the Metro and the national library.

HH the Emir also toured the various departments in Education City where HH was briefed by the officials on QF’s efforts to invest in human capital and capabilities within the educational system to produce distinct students, well equipped with science and knowledge. HH the Emir then visited the Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies, Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU), the Academic Bridge Program, and Texas A&M at Qatar.

HH the Emir also visited the HBKU Student Center, where HH met with a group of students from various Education City universities and exchanged views with them on their studies and future career aspirations. HH the Emir urged the students to be diligent and to acquire skills in order to be active and creative members in service of their country and community.
