Published Oct 21, 2009

Texas A&M at Qatar today hosted 700 Qatari high school students for Qatar Engineering Day. A joint project with Qatar Petroleum, Qatar Engineering Day is designed to introduce students to Education City and to raise awareness about the importance of engineering, specifically the engineering programs offered at Texas A&M at Qatar.

"The State of Qatar is a dynamic state, developing at a very fast pace," said Dr. Mark H. Weichold, dean and CEO of Texas A&M at Qatar. "To ensure the success and prosperity of the country, it requires its young, vibrant students to pursue higher education in all fields, but especially engineering. Engineering is a field that will continue to grow and is a discipline that is in high demand around the world." The event began with Weichold presenting HE Saad Bin Ibrahim Al-Mahmood, minister of education and higher education, with a gift from the Texas A&M at Qatar community. Mariam Al-Mannai, director of the University's Office of Student and Community Relations, said the event was a big achievement for Texas A&M at Qatar and for the State of Qatar. "Every student should have one objective, and that is to work toward the Qatar 2030 vision," she said. On Thursday, another 700 Qatari students from local high schools will attend Qatar Engineering Day. For information contact Mariam Al-Mannai: mariam.al-mannaie@qatar.tamu.edu.
