University awarded Exceptional Proposal to fund solar power project

Published Apr 07, 2013

Texas A&M at Qatar has been awarded an Exceptional Proposal recognition by the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) National Priorities Research Program (NPRP) for a project that aims to improve solar power conversion. The awarded proposal presented and led by Dr. Haitham Abu-Rub, professor in electrical engineering at Texas A&M at Qatar, will attempt to solve problems with integrating up to one megawatt of power from photovoltaic power conversion systems into the national utility grid using a silicon carbide-based inverter. The project has been granted $4.6 million, as power electronic converters are expected to play a major role in the conversion of alternative energy sources and the interfacing of this energy with power grids.
