Prof. Ahmed Abdel-Wahab is a Professor of Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ) and a professor of Civil Engineering at Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, USA. He has over 25 years of experience in environmental engineering teaching, research, and consulting. His research primarily focuses on chemical, (photo)electrochemical, and physical processes associated with treatment of water and wastewater, CO2 reduction, and H2 production. This work includes photochemical oxidation and reduction processes for destruction of a wide range of water and wastewater contaminants, electrochemical oxidation, electrocoagulation, photocatalytic processes for CO2 and H2 production, engineered osmosis for green energy production, and innovative extensions of lime softening for removal of a wide range of contaminants from recirculating cooling water and brine concentrate. Abdel-Wahab has strong track record in successfully delivering research and development projects funded by QNRF as well as by many government and Industry stakeholders. This research has attracted significant external funding totaling more than $15M. Abdel-Wahab’s research has led to publication of more than 100 peer-reviewed articles in leading research journals, 9 book chapters, and more than 80 refereed conference publications/presentations. Abdel-Wahab is an editorial board member of the Journal of Water Process Engineering (Elsevier) and an associate editor of Emergent Materials Journal (Springer). He is the co-founder of the Qatar Sustainable Water and Energy Utilization Initiative (QWE). QWE works closely with numerous industry stakeholders in Qatar and has excellent links with relevant governmental stakeholders. He has served on several technical committees for a number of governmental and non-governmental agencies in Qatar.

  • Extensions of lime softening for removal of scale-forming chemicals from water and wastewater
  • Reactive transport of contaminants in water streams and environmental impact assessment
  • Zero liquid discharge systems and brine treatment
  • Engineered osmosis for water treatment and green energy production
