Dr. Luc Véchot obtained a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the École Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Saint-Étienne (France) in 2006. He then joined the Fire and Process Safety Unit of the Health & Safety Laboratory in Buxton (United Kingdom) where he held the positions of Process Safety Engineer.

Dr. Véchot has worked on process safety related research topics for the last seven years.

He has experience in national and international research collaborations with universities, public laboratories and industries in the field of Process Safety. He is a member of the European DIERS (Design Institute for Emergency Relief Systems) Users Group.​

Dr. Vechot has focused his researches on:

  • Exothermic reaction hazards and calorimetric hazard screening techniques
  • Runaway reactions and adiabatic calorimetry
  • Pressure relief design applications for untempered peroxide systems
  • Accidental releases of water reactive chemicals
Current research of Dr. Luc Véchot:
  • Chemical reaction hazards, runaway reactions
  • Pressure relief design and scale up of untempered chemical systems (DIERS and UN methods)
  • Mitigation of the consequences of accidental spills of LNG onto land or water
