Message from the Program Chair

 

Greetings on behalf of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Program at Texas A&M University at Qatar.

Electrical engineering deals with the theory and application of electricity. It is the most innovative and vibrant field of engineering. Indeed most of humanity modern engineering achievements belong to electrical engineering. These include electric machines and electrification of the world, electronics, radio and television, computers, telephone and cellular phones, the Internet, image processing, laser and fiber optics, satellite communication, global positioning systems, medical equipment, domestic appliances, sensors and control systems used under water, space exploration and national security applications, among many other applications and discoveries.

It is hard to imagine human life without electrical engineering and without electrical engineers. Almost any technology that distinguishes our time has the imprint of electrical and computer engineering.

Electrical engineering has indeed advanced human prosperity through research, development and application of innovative ideas. Our graduates will be prepared to make significant contributions toward advancing the world and to help in building a better future for Qatar and the world. There is a big demand in Qatar and worldwide for electrical engineers, and almost every engineering industry needs electrical and computer engineers.

Our Electrical and Computer Engineering program is closely associated with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University in College Station (USA), which is one of the top electrical engineering programs not only in the US, but also the world. The degree and course offerings of our program are materially identical with respect to curriculum and quality to the corresponding electrical engineering program at the main campus in the US. All this has made exchange students between the two campuses easy and practical.

Our mission is to develop exemplary engineers and leaders, and to create an active community of students, faculty, staff, alumni and local industry stakeholders. We also seek to generate new knowledge by conducting research and disseminating results. Our mission is to serve the needs of the State of Qatar and the region through broad expertise.
We intend to always have our program stand out as one of the top programs not only at Texas A&M at Qatar and in Qatar, but also in the region and worldwide at large. As a consequences of all this, we are highly demanded program by the students at TAMUQ.

Indeed, we place particular emphasis on quality teaching, research and service for the benefit of our students. Our priority is the students’ success; therefore our program is established on a vision of excellence in teaching, research and service. The teaching is not only our profession but our passion — our priority is student success.

We motivate students through discussion and active learning approaches, and we involve our undergraduate students in research at the center of partnerships between education and industry. Furthermore, we aim to make our students ethically and morally strong.
Our faculty are specialized in the areas of power, communication, computer engineering, microwaves and electromagnetism, signal processing, control theory, and electronics. Because of our outstanding faculty and diverse research expertise, our students can specialize in one or more of the following areas.

• Electric power
• Communication
• Computer engineering
