1. EnSight 9.0 Gold - http://www.ensight.com/

EnSight is a visualization program from Computational Engineering International (CEI). EnSight stands for Engineering inSight. It is an extreme visualization postprocessor for engineering and scientific data. It is built on a client-server architecture. The server performs the data I/O and the compute intensive functions. The server then transmits 3-D geometry along with some other information to the Client, which is running on a graphic workstation. It works on all major computing platforms and supports interfaces to most major CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) software packages such as Ansys, Fluent, Abaqus, LS-Dyna, Star-Cd, CFX-5 etc.

2. Avizo - http://www.vsg3d.com

Avizo software is a powerful interactive tool for visualizing, manipulating, and understanding scientific and industrial data. It supports scripting and batch use. It includes tools for working with 3D and 2D image data processing and segmentation, chemistry visualization, volume rendering, surface reconstruction and simplification, tetrahedral grid generation, animation and general visualization and data exploration. It also has a Matlab connection for integration complex calculus. All editions of Avizo are available.

3. ParaView - http://www.paraview.com

ParaView is an open-source, multi-platform application designed to visualize data sets of size varying from small to very large. It supports distributed computation model to process large data sets. It is based on open-source Visualization Toolkit (VTK) as the data processing and rendering engine and has the user interface written in Qt. It provides many tools for scientific visualization but the most commonly-used are iso-contouring, clipping, cutting, volume rendering, thresholding, and subsetting. Paraview can represent data in both structured and unstructured grids.

4. Visualization Toolkit Library (VTK) - http://www.vtk.org

The Visualization Toolkit (VTK) is an open source, freely available software system for 3D computer graphics, image processing, and visualization used by thousands of researchers and developers around the world. VTK consists of a C++ class library, and several interpreted interface layers including Tcl/Tk, Java, and Python. VTK supports a wide variety of visualization algorithms including scalar, vector, tensor, texture, and volumetric methods; and advanced modeling techniques such as implicit modeling, polygon reduction, mesh smoothing, cutting, contouring, and Delaunay triangulation. In addition, dozens of imaging algorithms have been directly integrated to allow the user to mix 2D imaging / 3D graphics algorithms and data.

5. OpenSceneGraph - http://www.openscenegraph.com

The OpenSceneGraph is an open source high performance 3D graphics toolkit, used by application developers in fields such as visual simulation, games, virtual reality, scientific visualization and modeling. It is written entirely in Standard C++ and OpenGL, and runs on a variety of operating systems including all Windows platforms, Mac OS X, Linux, IRIX, Solaris, and FreeBSD operating systems. It supports wide range of 2D image and 3D formats.

6. Reservoir Visualization Tools by CMG - http://www.cmggroup.com

CMG Builder and CMG Results have been installed for reservoir visualization. CMG Builder is a set of applications used in the preparation of reservoir simulation models. It represents the next generation in model preparation, saving time, money, and frustration over conventional methods. It makes the design and preparation of reservoir models faster and more efficient than ever before. It does this by helping engineers navigate the often complex processes involved in preparing a model. The Builder in conjunction with CMG's line of reservoir simulators, makes simulation technologies more accessible to all organizations, even those with little previous experience in modeling.

CMG Results is a set of post-processing applications designed for visualizing and reporting simulator output. With Results, users are able to efficiently analyze the output from CMG simulators, prepare 2D and 3D plots, generate various informative graphs, and prepare tables of required information to be included in a study report. It can be used to view visual representations of reservoirs, and prepare reports on reservoir performance prediction obtained from simulation sensitivity cases.

7. Rhinoceros 4.0 - http://www.rhino3d.com

Rhinoceros is a commercial NURBS-based 3D modeling tool. It is commonly used for industrial design, architecture, automotive design, CAD, rapid prototyping as well as multimedia and graphic design industries. It specializes in free-form NURBS modeling. It has the ability to import and export over 30 file formats, which allows Rhino to act as a 'converter' tool between programs in a design workflow.

8. Vizard Virtual Reality Toolkit - http://www.worldviz.com

Vizard is a virtual reality development interface to build and render the interactive and immersive 3D virtual worlds. It is based on OpenGL and supports easy scripting-style programming.

9. Google SketchUp - http://sketchup.google.com

Google SketchUp is an intuitive and easy-to-use application to model 3D objects or environments. It can be used to build the models from scratch or ready-made models can be downloaded and integrated via Google 3D Warehouse. There are a large number of free models shared by people all over the world available via 3D Warehouse.

10. FlightGear - http://www.flightgear.com

FlightGear is an open-source multi-platform flight simulation program. It is used for development and pursuit of flight simulation ideas. It is highly customizable and has vast range of aircraft models, from gliders to helicopters and from airliners to fighter jets.
