Using a 3D Immersion Facility for Piping and Ductwork Layout in the Built Environment

PI: John A. Bryant

The ability to see piping and ductwork systems in 3D is difficult to develop. Working on piping and ductwork schematics in 2D and trying to draw these layouts in isometric as a way to see the 3D elements of the system is a challenging task. The goal of this project was to use the Immersive Visualization Facility at TAMUQ to enhance the student learning experience. Using actual projects from contacts in the Qatar construction industry, the students in MEEN 436 (HVAC Systems Design) will be developing systems or subsystems of chilled water/cooling tower water piping and/or ductwork layouts and sizing.
