Visualization of Petroleum Reservoir Recovery Processes

PI: Dr. Anuj Gupta

The main objective was to provide students a better understanding and insight of fluid displacements in petroleum reservoirs during recovery processes by utilizing the Immersive Visualization Facility. A typical reservoir model consists of thousands of grid blocks and looking at such array of numbers can only overwhelm a student. Typical, most reservoir simulation software allow visual display of such results on flat-screens as colorful perspective views or cross-sections. However, a reservoir being a true 3-D volume on the stereoscopic display can provide true insight into the process taking place in a reservoir.
