ENGR[x]: The “X” Factor

Aggie engineers are among the most sought-after candidates in the workforce. ENGR[x] enhances this position by requiring that our students go beyond the engineering core curriculum and participate in high-impact experiences that provide the platform to develop the professional skills that employers desire most.

ENGR[x] is a zero-credit-hour requirement for graduation beginning with the class of 2022 (students who started their studies Fall 2018 or later.) In order to complete the program requirement, students must participate in an approved engineering-centric activity that meets the criteria of a high impact learning experience and follow this activity with a meaningful self-reflection. Approved activities vary per engineering department. Students must speak to their advisors to assess the correct procedure for their engineering program.

Texas A&M University at Qatar offers the following options for students to meet their ENGR X requirement:

Aggie Service Learning Experience (ASLE)
Competitions (e.g., Chem-E Car, Shell Eco-Marathon, Formula SAE)
Humanitarian Engineering Workshop
Approved semester-long course at other education city partner university
Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) - Exchange Program

To register for ENGR X in a given semester, students should work with their academic advisor and the faculty member for the appropriate course; once the paperwork is submitted and approved, the course will be added to the student’s schedule.

All course request forms must be completely filled out (including syllabus and faculty/program chair signatures) and submitted for approval no later than the third class day of each semester in order to ensure timely processing and registration.
