The goal of the Study Abroad Program at Texas A&M University at Qatar is to enrich the academic experience for undergraduate and graduate students by providing them with global experiences. While students work with world-class faculty at renowned institutions, they will be able to experience new cultures and teaching styles, increase their cultural competence, and see engineering in a global context.
The Study Abroad Office at Texas A&M University at Qatar provides logistical support for incoming and outgoing students, cultural orientations, and assistance with housing, immunization, and insurance procedures.

Texas A&M University | College Station, Texas
Students that participate in the study abroad program to our main campus in College Station, Texas will experience campus life at one of the largest, and most vibrant, campuses in the United States. They will have the opportunity to work with world-class faculty at a leading institution, and use state of the art resources in class and research. Being on main campus will also allow students to experience Aggie traditions firsthand. Students can expect to see the traditions of Texas A&M, Aggie athletics, and the daily display of the Aggie Core Values.
College Station is centrally located in the "Texas triangle." Austin, Houston, and Dallas are major cities in Texas that are easily accessible from College Station.

University of Groningen | Leeuwarden, Netherlands
ENGR & PHIL 482: Engineering Ethics
Led by Drs. Hassan Bashir and Vijay Panchang, this Engineering Ethics course will be hosted at the University of Groningen. Founded in 1614, the University of Groningen is a top 100 university ranked in the Times of Higher Education. This program will be hosted at the University of Groningen's new campus facility in Leeuwarden. Leeuwarden is a 2018 European Capital of Culture, and program participants will be able to experience cultural exhibitions, performances, galleries, concerts, and other cultural activities. There are excursions planned for this program that include visiting the Philips Innovation Cluster of High Tech Technologies at Drachten, and the world famous Afslutdijk.

Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU)
Undergraduate students that participate on this program will be partnered with a main campus faculty member to work on a research project. This summer program will allow students to use state of the art equipment, have hands on experience with cutting edge research, and contribute to the community of knowledge. Previous students that have participated in this program have gone on to publish their findings in renowned journals, present at conferences, and obtained patents.
This program is open to undergraduate students classified as sophomores and above. Students will need to reach out to faculty on main campus to establish connections and find a faculty member willing to host them for the summer.

F-1 Student Visa
All participants that do not hold citizenship of the United States will be required to secure an F-1 student visa. Even if you already hold a different type of visa (such as a B-1/2 tourist visa, or J-1 scholar visa), you will still be required to secure an F-1 visa. You must enter the United States under the purpose of which your visa allows. Therefore, if you are entering the United States for the purpose of attending university, you must enter the United States on a student visa.
Main Campus Study Abroad Application
All students participating on this program must provide main campus certain documents through the Study Abroad Programs Office’s online application portal. These documents are used to process the required immigration documents for students needing to secure an F-1 visa for the United States. Even US citizens, although not needing a visa, are required to upload these documents. The documents include, but are not limited to:
- Color copy of your passport
- Declaration of Financial Support & Proof of Finances- bank statement, or letter from sponsor
- Tuberculosis screening certificate- found in the Department of Student Affairs
- Meningitis vaccination certificate- found in the Department of Student Affairs
- Immigration questionnaire
- Course selection form
All of these documents are used to create your I-20. An I-20 is an official document issued by a university that endorses an international student’s study in the United States. An I-20 is used by the immigration officer at the US embassy for the purpose of securing an F-1 visa. The Study Abroad Programs Office will coordinate with International Student Services in creating your I-20. The time to secure an I-20 can be lengthy, so it is extremely important to adhere to deadlines, and timeframes outlined by International Student Services, the Study Abroad Programs Office, and the International Programs Coordinator at Texas A&M University at Qatar.
You must have a valid passport to participate on this program. There must be at least a year of validity remaining on your passport.
Texas A&M University at Qatar has secured housing for students to stay at the Gardens. Students will have their own bedroom and bathroom, but share a living room and kitchen with another Texas A&M at Qatar student. The Gardens is located just a short walk from campus, and is across the street from the engineering buildings on campus. There is also a bus that will take students from the Gardens to campus. Also within walking distance are shops, restaurants, a cinema, and a pharmacy.
Students will be required to complete an application for housing, and sign a lease for the semester. Students will be contacted directly by the Office of Residence Life with the application to secure housing.
Orientation is a week long program that is designed to integrate TAMUQ study abroad students into campus life at Texas A&M, and help them get adjusted to life in College Station. The orientation program is mandatory for all participants, even returnee students, and US citizens. The International Programs Coordinator will travel with the TAMUQ cohort, and assist students with securing their IDs, take students to their various campus check-ins, provide an orientation, and take students around town to shop for various necessities.

Incoming Students to Qatar
Congratulations on your acceptance into the Texas A&M University at Qatar Study Abroad Program. This will be a unique opportunity for you to engage in the global Aggie community, and experience a new culture. Below is a quick guide to information concerning the requirements of the program.
Incoming Study Abroad Application
All incoming students must complete the Incoming Study Abroad Application. This application collects contact information for students, contains the housing application, and allows students to upload documents needed to secure a Qatar visa. Students will need to upload a color copy of their passport to their application. Students will also need to upload a report from a certified health clinic indicating their blood type. Students coming from Texas A&M University may complete this at Beutel Health Center.
All incoming students must provide 8 color copies of passport photos. Students can submit these photos to the Qatar Support Office to be sent to Texas A&M at Qatar.
Qatar Visa and Residence Permit
All participants on this program must have a visa for Qatar in order to participate in the program. Once arrived, the Qatar Foundation will sponsor incoming study abroad students for the purpose of securing a Qatar Residence Permit. Texas A&M University at Qatar will assist with this process.
Once your visa has been processed, the International Programs Coordinator will send this to you electronically. Be sure to print this out and bring it with you to the airport.
In accordance to Qatari immigration law, all participants must have an official passport from their country of citizenship. Unfortunately, other travel documents (such as refugee papers) will not suffice. Passports must have a year of validity remaining in order to obtain a visa and Residence Permit.
Qatari immigration law has strict health standards imposed on people entering the country. Students should be prepared to be tested for the following:
It is highly recommended that students be tested for certain communicable diseases prior to arriving in Doha. Texas A&M University at Qatar does not need to know the results of these tests. However, the securing of a Qatar Residence Permit is contingent on the results of these tests. Once arrived in Doha, students will be required to be retested as part of the process to obtain a Residence Permit.
All study abroad students are required to stay in the Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) student housing. The residence halls are located within the confines of Education City, and are in walking distance to the Texas A&M University at Qatar, and HBKU Student Center buildings. There is also a bus system that can transport you from the residence halls to the different campuses, and the HBKU Student Center. Students will be housed in single occupancy rooms, and each room has its own bathroom. Linens will be provided by HBKU Housing. WiFi is accessible throughout the residence hall. Housing is constantly monitored by security, and there is a hall director available at the front desk 24 hours a day.
