Events

The Academic Success Collaborative and the Academic Services Office teamed up to offer first-year students some unique events throughout the academic year. The events were designed to help them sail smoothly through their transition into college.

“Ask An Aggie” gave first-year students a chance to chat with undergraduate students from all majors and classes, and ask them any questions they had about their campus experience. They had some great advice, which was recorded on video so all students could also benefit!

“Group Dynamics” addressed that part of college coursework that every student experiences at least once: working in teams with others. Students learned techniques and tricks to make it a smooth experience for all involved!

The “Global Learning Opportunities” session presented our first-year students with information about the multiple opportunities available for study abroad, service learning, undergraduate research and leadership that are offered to our students in partnership with our main campus in College Station.

A session on “Writing By Design” was led by both the ASC and Liberal Arts faculty, and helped students to learn to write intentionally, and to avoid plagiarism and other academic pitfalls. For many, this was an introduction to academic writing and will stand them in good stead in the semesters and assignments to come!
