Mechanical engineering students print 3-D engines

img_5728

Ten mechanical engineering students completed their projects on 3-D-printed jet engines in MEEN 404 recently. The students selected an existing design and then modified it to conduct their experiments. The parts were printed at Texas A&M at Qatar’s Direct Digital (Rapid) Manufacturing Facility. One group focused on the performance of the jet engine while the other team conducted vibrational analysis. Compressed air was used to simulate combustion in the engine and a DC motor was used to power the engine for vibrational analysis. The course project results tie into practical industrial applications.
